How to Choose the Right Firewalk Instructor Training (and Avoid the Wrong One)
Not all firewalking schools are created equal. Here’s what you really need to know before you train.
How Do You Choose the Right Firewalk Instructor Training?
If you’ve ever typed “firewalk instructor training” into Google and found yourself swimming in shiny websites and bold promises, you’re not alone.
The question is: how do you really know which firewalking school to trust?
Here’s what I’ve learned through experience, instinct, and nearly two decades of walking the fire and training others to do the same.
🔥 1. Beware the ‘Weekend Wonder’ Trainings
It might sound convenient ‘Get certified in one weekend!’ But firewalking isn’t a party trick. It’s a transformational experience that has the power to change lives… or cause real harm if done carelessly.
You’re not just learning how to light a fire … you’re learning how to create a safe, emotional, spiritual container for breakthrough.
Proper training takes time. Emotional processing, physical safety, empowerment psychology, ceremony, risk management, it can’t be rushed.
If someone offers a quick fix, be cautious. Your future participants deserve more. And so do you.
🌿 2. Is the Training Environment Transformational?
Where and how you’re trained impacts everything.
Are you learning in window-less … soul-less room with the firewalk in a carpark?
Or are you immersed in a sacred, nature-based environment that helps you feel the power of the elements… Space to breath, learn and immerse yourself?
You’ll be leading life-changing experiences so your training should be one. Think about how you want people to feel during your firewalks. Then make sure you’re trained in a way that mirrors that depth, reverence, and power.
Because this isn’t about performance. It’s about transformation.
🎥 3. Watch Their Footage, Does It Have Soul?
We live in a world of glossy branding, but watch closely.
Do their videos move you?
Does their voice carry wisdom?
Does their fire feel sacred or showy?
A firewalk leader isn’t just a coach or speaker, they are a bridge. A guide. A guardian of the fire.
You can tell if someone’s just going through the motions, or if they live the fire. The right trainer carries a deep sense of responsibility and spiritual embodiment.
You want to learn from someone who holds firewalking as medicine, not just mechanics.
🛡 4. Are They Properly Insured?
This one matters more than people realise.
My insurance provider asks exactly how many days my instructor course runs. Why?
Because firewalking is high-risk and insurers won’t cover courses that don’t include enough depth, safety training, and assessment.
If a training is too short, it might not even meet the minimum for professional liability insurance.
If the training isn’t insurable… how are you meant to safely run events?
Choose a trainer who works closely with their insurer and ensures you will leave fully prepared and properly covered.
✨ 5. Go to One of Their Firewalks First
Before you commit, attend one of their firewalks. Then go to someone else’s….
Don’t watch from the sidelines. Feel it.
Did you leave with more confidence? More clarity?
Did you feel empowered, grounded, expanded?
That’s what your future participants will be walking away with too.
You want to feel not just the heat of the fire, but the alignment in your heart.
When you meet the right trainer, you’ll know. The fire doesn’t lie.
🪶 6. Check Their Qualifications & Lineage
Firewalking has a rich history. It’s been used for thousands of years in rituals of courage, healing, and awakening.
The person who trains you should honour that. Not just with words but with their own lineage, training, and certification.
I trained with Peggy Dylan, the woman who introduced firewalking to the West 40 plus years ago. She learned from Tolly Burkan, and together they brought this sacred act into mainstream consciousness.
If your trainer hasn’t trained with a recognised lineage like SUNDOOR, or doesn’t deeply respect the roots of this practice, it’s worth questioning. They trained themselves is a massive red flag and you’d be missing out on the “stuff” that stops it from being a gimmick or a show.
This is sacred work. Honour the source. Also watch >>> “What Does It Take To Be a Firewalking Instructor”<<<
